Innovation, or ‘how only thousands of hours of hard work enable true moments of innovation and positive change’ - Klaus Kammermeier

Hi, I'm Klaus the founder of innovation Labs Berlin where we design an immersive Innovation experiences or in short Eureka moments. Since founding almost five years ago. We are going through a rollercoaster of a ride with impossible learnings, little and big surprises and wonderful interaction. With great inspiring and dedicated Founders and change makers like Mario's, Anninos and the rest of the Parametricos Team.

I have the pleasure of working with since the beginning of the year after meeting through the Founder Institute.  And I was immediately intrigued by their vision dedication and professionalism when I met them when Mario's invited me to come to Cyprus to talk at this event. I was very excited. But unfortunately could not make it work due to other commitments.

We talked and Mario suggested to send a short video greeting something, I have not done before but hey, how could I be authentically represent Innovation and Entrepreneurship if I myself wouldn't try to get out of my comfort zone and that leads me to the topic of the short speech.  the Moment of Innovation or 'how thousands of hours of hard work and able to moments of innovation?'

I don't want to bore you with an academic review of what Innovation really is or is not a just want to talk about three thoughts and deep insights. I have gathered during my intro intro-solo-cross. however, you ever you to call it preneurship journey. First make ideas fail. I tried to innovate since I graduated from college my first real business that you were selling medical books to doctors and patients by a male.

This was before Amazon. While  the survey we had conducted had fantastic positive responses the problem we had set out to solve was not there and we failed miserably. Today, I see and hear about many business ideas that sound intriguing but actually a very small percentage of these ideas even when well thought through and presented for example with the Business Model canvas go as planned.

It's from the implementation starts things change and for me ideas are worth nothing. Let me repeat, ideas are worth nothing. Ideas don't take any value if they are simply on paper or in someone's head. They only start being interesting important and valuable when the insights gained through the idea help people solve problems or achieve their vision. Only insights drive Innovation, not ideas.

A failed idea is the path to an insight. Make your ideas turn into insights, make them fail, fail, learn and create insights only through new valuable impactful insights, you are able to drive Innovation and brace this approach and welcome failed ideas as insights and start creating impact from insights.

I've been asked this question many times. So how often did you fail? I think you know the answer. Second learn to learn. All innovators start out with a glimpse of a solution convinced it will solve somebody's problem as you did with Architectonic. We then start to think in detail the 'what' while playing the 'how' we declare a plan with objectives and key results and then work more or less meticulously to make it happen, but it is almost certainly not happening as planed.

Is if there is a certain law maybe another variation of one of Murphy's laws that by purely stating an objective, it is not going to happen as planned but don't get discouraged open your eyes to what is really important about preneurship the process of learning and gaining insight. Just think of the objectives you declare at the beginning as fuzzy or opaque and the job is to find ways to make them a little bit clearer with every step. Like an optometrist asked you whether  your eyesight is getting better or worse. When she's switching lenses in front of your eyes.

Based on your answers any knowledgeable and experienced optometrist will reduce the next set of lenses and radically adapt the combination of options that create real Improvement. Learn to learn and reduce or change the available options with every step.

Third and most exciting the moment of innovation. I believe that the emotional moment of Eureka or Aha or I got it is what really matters in Innovation. It is not creativity by itself. It's not technical excellence and it is not flawless execution and it's certainly not funding that gets poured into new products, services, experiences of business models. No!

It is the deeply felt emotional moment. That is the true moment of innovation. It is the super fuel in the entrepreneur's energy, reservoir. The Eureka moment. Is it not the deep moment itself, the moment of excitement, the pleasure of discovery as breakthrough and the discovery of that breakthrough requires a vision a clear goal to strive for.

It's a dedication, a persistence to overcome obstacles and challenges. It requires inspirational ideas a creative combination of elements previously unconnected and it's a combination of talent that enables high performance teams. It needs a heart to look beyond customers and appreciation of technology, a willingness to take risks and so much.

And all this can only be achieved through thousands of hours of hard work and persistence that has been put in before.  I wish you many more hours of wonderful interaction and the experience of at least one, ideally more of these miraculous Eureka moments. When you shiver, get goosebumps or the hairs on your arms and neck, stand up.

Feel free to share them with me and write them to me. Have fun. Let's create Eureka moments and fill your tank,  to drive sustainable change in architecture and construction.
